Shelter

study project - Msc Architecture / urbanscape program - Liechtenstein university

Based on an archetype of a chalet, this small shelter tries to reinterpret the traditional construction methods and materials in a small village in Liechtenstein. High in the mountains it functions as a shelter. The south facade is used to stack wood during summer; this wood can then be used to heat the shelter in winter. The wood provides protection from the sun in the summer but when the stock diminishes during winter, solar gains are made possible. The wood used on the rest of the facade allows the building to become a light beacon at night. Parts of the building are flexible; users can choose to open up the structure as they wish.
